Durian Season Ends Earlier Than Expected This Year

Our durian stall is now closed as durian season is coming to an end soon. The last one has not dropped but too little durians to actually sell. Our durians actually dropped like crazy in the past 3 weeks and is not the usual volume! Lucky to those who have booked with us earlier!

We would like to take this opportunity to also thank everyone for their support and encouragement to us this year!!

THANK YOU TO ALL DURIAN LOVERS !!! HOPE YOU HAD A GREAT & DELICIOUS TIME !!!

Durian Stall Now Open!

Coming to Teluk Bahang? Hungry for some durians? Why not visit us at our durian stall which is just along Jalan Teluk Bahang…

If you are coming from the Teluk Bahang dam, our durians and fruits stall is located after the Tropical Fruit Farm. If you are coming from Balik Pulau, start looking out after you see the Tropical Fruit Farm signboard (800m).. As you can see, our stall is located just beside the 400m signboard.

This year we are selling mostly local branded durians, some fruits, fresh nutmegs and our homemade nutmeg syrup with no preservatives added (must try!).

During this durian season, our durian stall is sure to be open during weekends but may not be opened everyday – depends on durian availability.

So see you there !

Durian Flowers Blooming on Chinese New Year!

A miracle of life has happened! This year, Mother Nature blesses us again with her beautiful flowers. Here are some closeup photos of our durian trees during this year’s Chinese New Year celebration.

Durian flower buds just beginning to sprout.

Durian flower buds, probably just a week old.

Durian flowers and buds.

Durian flowers and larger buds, probably a few weeks old.

Beautiful durian flowers!!!

See how lovely the durian flowers look like in closeup. Since they are so bright and scentful, they attract plenty of bees and other insects which help in pollination.

Display of Lights at Kek Lok Si Temple 极乐寺, Air Itam

On one of the Chinese New Year festival nights, we decided to go out for a ride and suddenly thought of driving to Kek Lok Si Temple (极乐寺) at Air Itam, and so we did. Geographically, the temple is only a few hills away from our farm, but there is no through route from Teluk Bahang to Air Itam yet. The beautiful Kek Lok Si Temple is also known as Temple of Supreme Bliss or Temple of Sukhavati.

Kek Lok Si can be seen from far at night!

Kek Lok Si temple with its grand display of lights that symbolise Peace, Luck & Prosperity receives plenty of visitors during the Chinese New Year celebration, mainly devotees. The lights which can be seen from far are usually light up after 7pm and lasts till midnight on normal days during this festive month.  This grand illumination of lights is no joke – about 230,000 light bulbs and 10,000 lanterns are lighted up every night!

It was quite late when we arrived, so we just visited the Guanyin statue section by taking one of its lift up. We might go again another day to see the Pagoda section.

Red Lanterns can be seen hanging across the ceilings, hallways and sidewalks of Kek Lok Si.

Although just a short visit, I will always remember this fateful, beautiful and somewhat spiritual night.

Yellow Orchid Flower

We have quite a bit of orchids in our garden, with most of them hanging on the fences. But here is a yellow orchid that we planted on the ground – healthy and blooming! Do you like orchid flowers?

Giant Monkey Cups at Teluk Bahang Roundabout

Recently, some gigantic-size Nepenthes ( 猪笼草 ) or Monkey Cups were found growing at the Teluk Bahang town roundabout (just 10 mins from our durian farm)… Here’s a nice shot of the monkey cups. I wonder if it will actually collect any rain water inside…

A Flower That Blooms Only At Night

Once upon a beeeaaauuutiful night… we saw a beeeeaaaauutiful white flower in our garden…!

dragon-fruit-pitaya-flower

Can you guess what plant this is? It’s a plant where its flowers only blooms at night… It blooms at night so that it can collect moon dust, which is not available during the day. The fruit of the plant is commonly known as Dragon Fruit or Pitaya. This particular plant is from the genus Hylocereus, which is more common in Asian countries.

OK, I made up that moon dust stuff. It might happen on Pandora though.
